Our Mission

To provide literacy support to enable and encourage disadvantaged students to become proficient readers, thus increasing their opportunities to attend college and become productive with well-paying jobs and careers, and to provide these students with positive role models and a strong peer support system.

Leading Legacies has brought a new reading and mentoring program to Southeast San Diego!

Leading Legacies became an idea in 2002, in response to an observation that many children in Southeast San Diego are in need of guidance, mentoring, and academic assistance.  We incorporated in March, 2011, and are a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) public charity.

The Board of Directors of Leading Legacies currently consists of seven members and includes a social worker, interning MFTs,  and both current and retired law enforcement officers.

The staff and mentors of Leading Legacies are professional women who have overcome many of the obstacles currently faced by students in Southeast San Diego.  We have college students, community leaders, and successful mothers on our staff.
